Drawing a Bamboo texture

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog post. Today I have tried to draw realistic bamboo texture by using Muti- media including copic markers (G12, G14 and G17) and uni ball ink pen and colour pencil Koh-I-Noor

These are my two attempt of bamboo texture colouring and I personally dislike it as it can be improve in term of the details and I think I should not use black ink pen and it makes the bamboo looks like cartoon. I would like to achieve realistic bamboo texture as much as possible. It is not an easy task but I will keep trying to explore more.

This photo shows the zoom version of the copic marker which I used.

The ink pen

This photo shows a clear use of copic marker. As you can see it does not make the texture smooth. I still can see the clear stroke making by the marker. In term of the colour, It is green which is similar to the real bamboo which I am happy with the result. The shadow is well-rendering

The overall result made by me

This is the final result which I am happy with. I use 3 copic colours followed by the colour pencils. The details are made by brown colour which is better than the black one. The reason why I use colour pencil to draw Frame is because normal pencil can damage the tip of the marker. Furthermore, I spent around two hours on studying the texture. I personally feel that observation on the actual texture will help me on colouring as I can have better understanding on the texture. On the actual product, I should add more details.
