Alternative source for transparent plastic
Today, I have done some researches which are useful for my eco-friendly project. To begin with, I have found transparent wood which can be used instead of transparent plastic packaging. After watching the video, I found it is very interesting and i moved on for the research on
The transparent wood is not totally transparent- meaning the material is still cloudy but we still can see through. it is a hard object ( like a hard wood)t’s also as biodegradable and environmentally friendly as regular wood.Indeed,it is suitable for mass-production.However, the designer (Lars Burglund) was not certain about how the transparent wood cost.It might increase the price of the product itself.
Furthermore, I have done another research about transparent pea starch. It is no thick and it is suitable for food packaging like snack bar. The material itself is clear like plastic and it is not costly.Mark (my tutor ) suggested me to email Dr claire Domoney who discovered the pea starch for free small sample and i have emailed her.I am waiting for her reply.
This is good research. You should also include an ecological/environmentalist argument for designing with non-plastic materials. Four photographers working in the area of ecology that immediately come to mind: Janeanne Gilchrist, Mandy Barker, Edward Burtynsky and Conohar Scott. Check out their photos online and include in a post if relevant.
